{"id":16,"date":"2009-09-03T14:53:52","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T02:53:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.exerciseindustryawards.co.nz\/?page_id=16"},"modified":"2018-02-14T09:43:06","modified_gmt":"2018-02-13T21:43:06","slug":"about-the-awards","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/exerciseindustryawards.co.nz\/aboutheawards\/about-the-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"About the fitness industry awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The fitness industry awards are an annual event, which started in 2005, recognising excellence in the exercise and fitness industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The awards have a number of categories (<a title=\"Award Categories\" href=\"http:\/\/www.exerciseindustryawards.co.nz\/aboutheawards\/2018-categories-judging-criteria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a full list of award categories can be found here<\/a>), for both individuals and facilities that operate in the fitness\/exercise industry, as well as special awards for those outside the industry showing a commitment to health and wellness through exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">With the exception of three awards, all awards are based on an application process that is reviewed by a judging panel, with finalists (pre-announced) and winners announced at a formal awards ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The award ceremony itself is extremely prestigious, and guest speakers have included the politicians the <strong>Hon<\/strong> <strong>John Key, Hon Rodney Hide<\/strong>, <strong>Hon Murray McCully<\/strong> and <strong>Sue Kedgeley<\/strong>. \u00a0The award ceremony&#8217;s MC is fitness and media personality <strong>Suzy Clarkson.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For a list of past winners, please see our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exerciseindustryawards.co.nz\/winners\/\" target=\"_self\">past winners of the fitness industry awards<\/a> page.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>History<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From 2005 &#8211; 2009 the awards were run by FitnessLife and were known as the <em><strong>FitnessLife Awards. <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From the outset the awards were recognised by the industry association for the fitness industry (<a href=\"http:\/\/exercisenz.org.nz\">Exercise\u00a0New Zealand<\/a>), as well as the registration body for exercise facilities and exercise professionals (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reps.org.nz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Register of Exercise Professionals<\/a> or REPs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After the 2009 event FitnessLife passed on the running of the event to ExerciseNew Zealand.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The fitness industry awards are an annual event, which started in 2005, recognising excellence in the exercise and fitness industry.
